Weekend brunch north of Houston is usually one of two moods: hotel buffet or a diner that runs out of hollandaise. Nacho Padres runs a third: Tex-Mex brunch, Saturday and Sunday, 9:30am–3pm.
The plates that define it
Churro waffles and chicken — cinnamon sugar waffles, crispy tenders, vanilla butter maple, Abuelita chocolate. It is dessert that pretends to be breakfast and everyone at the table is fine with that.
Fajita steak and eggs — grilled outside skirt, eggs, breakfast potatoes, avocado, tortillas, salsa roja. If you only brunch once a quarter, this is the order.
Giant breakfast tacos on a 12-inch flour tortilla. 12-inch breakfast burrito. Nachos migas. Chilaquiles divorciados. Huevos divorciados. Protein add-ons include beef fajita, chorizo, carnitas, cactus, jalapeño cheddar sausage.
The drinks that make it a cantina brunch
Bloody Maria with Don Julio. Don Guapos michelada. Nacho mimosa. Mimosa flight with jamaica, tamarind, watermelon, piña. Padres carajillo if you need coffee and a push.
Kids can do agua fresca. Adults can do the flight. That is the whole family business model.
Who drives in
