Conroe has Mexican restaurants. What Montgomery County still hunts for, especially on a Friday, is a cantina: a bar program that is not an afterthought, a room that can take a large table, margaritas you would photograph on purpose.
Nacho Padres sits at 2121 Rayford Road in Spring, typically 20–25 minutes from central Conroe down I-45. That is the same drive you already do for concerts, medical appointments, and The Woodlands. Make it dinner.
What “best cantina” means on this corridor
A cantina is not a sports bar with chips. Ours is built around:
- Draft margaritas — classic, jamaica, cucumber mint, tamarind — plus a three-flavor flight.
- Frozen ritas and beer-ritas for the table that cannot agree.
- Specialty pours like the Renfroe Rita, spicy watermelon 24oz, and Nacho Grandma’s Margarita (Hornitos Double Barrel Añejo, Grand Marnier, chamoy, Tajín).
- Spiked Jarritos if you want something lighter than a 24oz.
TWTX called the bar program excellent. That is the sentence Conroe groups care about when they are electing a destination.
Food that survives a caravan of trucks
If six people drove down from Grand Central Park, order a botana. La Familia (fajita, shrimp, carnitas, chicken, jalapeño cheddar sausage) is the peace treaty. Fajitas for two if it is a date. Cactus tacos if someone at the table “doesn’t do Tex-Mex” — they do, they just needed a different taco.
Happy hour Monday–Friday 3–6pm is the Conroe-after-work slot: $5.99 house ritas, $6.99 bites. Weekend brunch 9:30–3 if lake traffic makes dinner a coin flip.
Groups, rehearsal dinners, office parties
Private room for 30. Patio for 100. Book it before you text the group chat. Catering goes north to Conroe addresses too.
The honest distance answer
